shoot gallery // getting in the frame with a shutter release app

Of all the bizarre things about this pandemic lifestyle…and there are many…photographing myself for work might be the weirdest for me! In regular life, I hire models and produce a commercial shoot every week. Being home with my family for the past 6 months means that we’re the models every week now! I use the Nikon Snapbridge app to get myself in the frame, triggering the shutter from my phone, which has allowed me to keep shooting lifestyle imagery despite the lack of models - AND without having to bug my husband, who can keep doing his own work upstairs. As wacky as it feels to get in front of the lens for myself, it’s also been a fun challenge to see how I can keep producing through these strange times at home. Different camera brands all have apps of their own - or you can purchase a wireless remote shutter release and push a button instead of using your phone.

A remote shutter release is also a great option for a mom to get in the frame with her kids for a change. Sometimes just for fun, I set up the camera on a tripod and invite some snuggles - it’s a simple way to capture some intimate moments together, and is less frazzled than using a timer feature and trying to jump into the frame in time. On a sick day home from school last winter, my daughter and I put on dresses for no reason and snapped this pic, which is a super random thing to do, I realize, but I’m so happy to have it.
