shoot gallery // technical mistakes
You know something I really don’t care about? The Rules of Photography. I mean, yes, you need to know the general rules of exposure in order to take a photo - you should understand aperture and shutter speed and how they relate in order to achieve the look you’re going for. Okay fine, you should have some idea of where your light is coming from. But in my humble opinion (IMHO as the kids would say) none of that matters if a photo has no point of view, if it’s technically perfect but there’s no life in it. If a photograph evokes a feeling, it’s a success in my book, even if it’s technically imperfect. Even if it’s a technical big ol’ mess. Oh and focus? I couldn’t care less if a photo is in focus. Real life rarely feels sharp and clear in my experience - it’s a colorful, confusing, feely blur most of the time. More often than not, the only reason I’m taking a picture is an attempt to bottle up joy and gratitude and love and connection - to stop right smack in the middle of that larger-than-life feeling and snatch it for later. So anyway, for no reason at all, here are a few of my photos that are full of technical mistakes. Many of these have been rejected for flat light, poor crops, no focus, blown highlights and more, but they’re some of my favorites anyway because they feel like something.
